Amit Shah Calls for Decolonisation of Indian Knowledge Systems

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who arrived in Mumbai on Saturday night, stressed the need to liberate Indian knowledge systems from the colonial framework.

Inaugurating an exhibition of ancient manuscripts at the Asiatic Society of Mumbai near Horniman Circle on Sunday afternoon, Shah spoke about the importance of popularising India’s ancient knowledge. He said he visited the Asiatic Society of India as a leader of a movement to carry forward Indian knowledge traditions for thousands of years.

“The newly-elected president of the Asiatic Society of Mumbai, Dr. Vinay Sahasrabuddhe, remarked that this is the first time a Home Minister of the country has visited the Asiatic Society of Mumbai. Yet I have not come here in my capacity as Home Minister but as a leader of a movement to carry forward the Indian knowledge tradition for thousands of years. I have full faith that in the coming days, the Asiatic Society of Mumbai will become the carrier of the Indian knowledge tradition and spread it across the country,” the Union Home Minister said.

He said that a nation which cannot protect its memory, history, culture, language, records and traditions will perish quickly, no matter how powerful it may be. No matter how many years a country remains under colonial rule, nobody can really enslave a nation that has preserved its history and culture, and India is an example.
