Bengal chief minister Suvendu Adhikari on Thursday warned of strict action against those he described as sympathisers of "anti-national forces" at Jadavpur University, saying the government would adopt the language of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose if "Kashmir wants freedom" slogans were raised on the campus.

Speaking in the Assembly during the tabling of an amendment Bill to enable the inter-university transfer of teaching and non-teaching staff, Adhikari said sympathisers of "anti-national forces" at the university required "strict medicines".

The chief minister said the government would not follow the language of Mahatma Gandhi in dealing with slogans calling for Kashmir's freedom.

On the recent controversy over a meat diktat attributed to Dhirendra Shashtri of Bageshwar Dham, Adhikari said he had instructed the Kolkata Police commissioner to arrest Congress workers who burnt portraits of the self-styled godman during recent protests.
