Delhi University’s ilent Friday

Another academic tradition at Delhi University has been extinguished.

The Friday Colloquium Series of the Department of Sociology at the Delhi School of Economics—running uninterrupted for nearly six decades—could not hold its session scheduled for October 31. The reason: university officials instructed the Head of the Department to cancel it.

Professor Nandini Sundar, who coordinates the series, was informed orally by the Head that this directive had come from the administration. When she insisted on a written order and sought an explanation, the Registrar conveyed through WhatsApp that the event was being cancelled for “administrative reasons”…
