DU Overhauls Syllabus, Sidelines Subject Experts

The University of Delhi’s (DU) Executive Council has approved a sweeping overhaul of syllabi in flagship departments, from Psychology and Sociology to English, that strips out contemporary case studies on Kashmir, Palestine, India-Pakistan tensions and the Northeast, replacing them with lessons drawn from the Mahabharata and Bhagavad Gita.

Members of DU’s Academic Council have warned that this shifting away from current social phenomena will blunt students’ critical-analysis skills, weaken classroom debate and erode global awareness that might leave graduates under-prepared for postgraduate study and today’s competitive job market…
