Alumni of Lady Shri Ram College (LSR), Delhi, have issued a public statement backing student protests, alleging saffronisation and administrative repression after the principal’s video supporting the Women’s Reservation Bill appeared on BJP platforms.

On 13 April, a video posted on the Bharatiya Janata Party’s social media handles showed the principal of Lady Shri Ram College for Women, Professor Kanika Ahuja, speaking on the women’s reservation bill in her official capacity, amounting to institutional endorsement of the ideological politics of the ruling party. The subsequent student protests demanding accountability for the blurring of academic office with the party’s platforms were met with administrative repression. We, the undersigned alumni of LSR, strongly condemn the ongoing threat to academic freedom and institutional autonomy, the continued complicity of the institution in the larger agenda of saffronisation, and the age-old tactics of silencing and disciplining of student dissent…
