Punjab Forum Seeks Complete Autonomy for Universities

To uphold the sanctity of universities as "temples of knowledge", public forums Lok-Raj Punjab and Jago-Punjab have called for complete autonomy and independence for all universities.

Referring to the recent incident at Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, where an employee of the university was issued a suspension order after an argument with a local Aam Aadmi Party leader, Jago-Punjab chairman and former vice-chancellor of Punjabi University Prof Swaran Singh Boparai and Lok-Raj convenor Dr Manjit Singh Randhawa in a written statement mentioned: "These vital institutions must be free from political interference to preserve their role as custodians of cultural diversity, languages, heritage, and history."…
