Shortly after noon on Monday 9 June, the webpage Columbia University biology professor Dr Tal Nuriel had never expected to create went live: a public appeal for funding to help facilitate the continuation of his research into the role of a gene variant called APOE4, the primary genetic risk factor for Alzheimer’s disease.
