Astronomy Olympiad Suspends Israel from Future Editions over Its Military Actions in Gaza

The International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA) Monday suspended Israel from future editions of the annual competition for secondary school students, allowing Israeli students to compete only on an individual basis but not as part of the national team.

IOAA’s International Board, the governing body, made the decision during the ongoing 18th edition in Mumbai following a letter dated August 1 from 536 signatories, including several from the Indian and international scientific community, advocating for Israel’s suspension due to its actions in Gaza and the prevention of Palestinian participation.
