RAIPUR: Chhattisgarh school education minister Gajendra Yadav on Wednesday blamed teachers and local Congress functionaries for allegedly instigating student protests over shortages of teachers and basic facilities, even as the education department moved to address several of the very demands raised by the students.
The sharpest confrontation was at Pendrawan in Durg district, where nearly 400 students Swami Atmanand English Medium School blocked the Khairagarh-Dhamdha road for around 12 hours on Tuesday and called off the protest only after speaking to Yadav over phone close to midnight. Durg is the education minister’s home district.
The students had complained of a severe shortage of subject teachers, particularly in commerce, and said regular classes and syllabus completion were suffering.
Education minister Gajendra Yadav told TOI that the protests were provoked by local Congress-linked functionaries and a section of teachers unhappy with a newly posted principal who is strict in nature.
