DUTA Letter Against the Unwarranted Inspections of Colleges by the DU Officials
20 January 2026 | DUTA
DUTA strongly condemns over the unwarranted inspections of colleges by the DU officials and their adverse impact on the teaching-learning environment
Prof. Singh,
The Delhi University Teachers' Association (DUTA) registers its strong protest and deep displeasure over the recent inspection rounds conducted by University officials in class rooms, which interfere with the teaching-learning atmosphere in the colleges. As a federal university, Delhi University has always respected the autonomy of its colleges. Such interventions contravene the established statutory governance practices.
DUTA would like to draw your attention that, the University of Delhi is a federal university with a long-standing tradition of democratic governance, it has historically respected the academic and administrative autonomy of its constituent colleges. Such intrusive interventions not only undermine this autonomy but also run contrary to established statutory provisions and well-recognised norms of university governance.
Such inspections have adversely affected regular academic functioning and created an atmosphere of mistrust, anxiety, and unnecessary surveillance within colleges.
DUTA demands that instead of engaging in unwarranted inspections, the University administration must urgently address the long-pending and repeatedly raised academic and administrative issues that continue to impair the teaching and learning processes across the University, such as non-availability of the 8th semester syllabus, ongoing confusion regarding selections/options of DSE/GE/SEC/VAC/SBC courses, persistent ambiguity in the assessment of dissertation/project work, acute shortage of faculty in colleges, mess in conduct of examination and evaluation work, confusing instructions issued from time to time on the appointment of guest faculty leading to disruption of teaching learning in colleges, etc. has already placed an enormous burden on teachers and students alike. Subjecting colleges to inspections in such circumstances amounts to a direct assault on the academic ethos of the University and detracts from its core mission of education and research.
DUTA will take a strong cognizance of any such action/inspection if conducted by DU officials in future. Such practices categorically undermine the dignity and respect of the teachers and maligns the image of the University and its colleges.
DUTA demands that the University administration immediately desist from these unwarranted interventions and instead engage constructively with teachers' representatives to restore academic normalcy, trust, and institutional harmony.
