In the past week, members of ABVP have taken the path of violence to subvert the democratic voices belonging to University Of Hyderabad (UoH) and the Democratic Students Organisation near Calcutta University.
On 3rd of May, the students of UoH staged a play critiquing caste hierarchy and campus politics. The play, Holi, written by Marathi playwright Mahesh Elkunchwar condemns caste hierarchy and sheds light on how caste operates within educational institutions thereby causing an unwelcoming learning space for the most vulnerable. ABVP members objected to certain dialogues referring to “Sanskriti” and Brahmanism, claiming they were likely to hurt Hindu sentiments and demanded censorship of such parts of the play post the rehearsal.
