Bihar’s 208 New Degree Colleges Have No Urdu Posts, Sparks Grave Concerns

A massive government plan to open degree colleges in 208 blocks across Bihar has sparked a sharp political and cultural controversy. While the state’s Higher Education Department has sanctioned 9,152 teaching and non-teaching posts under the Unnat Shiksha – Ujjwal Bhavishya resolve, a closer look reveals that Urdu – Bihar’s second official language – has been completely excluded from the list of subjects.
The decision, formalised in a government order dated 30 April 2026, sanctions 17 subjects, including Hindi, English, Economics, History, and even Environmental Science. However, not a single assistant professor post has been created for Urdu across all 208 new colleges…
